OSHA HAZCOM Compliance Dates: Updated Dates Listed; SDS Compliance for Substances and Mixtures

It is the responsibility of the manufacturer, importer, distributor or handler to provide a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) that details safety, handling, storage and emergency information.
Hazmat Service, Inc. in conjunction with SJC Compliance Education Inc., is now offering service to produce or update your SDS sheets. These new or updated SDS sheets will fully incorporate OSHA's GHS amendment that will include critical changes to classification, labeling and section specific guidance.
Ensuring timely compliance with SDS regulations is essential for maintaining market access and avoiding costly fines and penalties. Proactive monitoring of all regulatory change and updating SDS documentation as required will help companies remain in good standing with all agencies.


Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) Updates (Extended Deadlines):

Jan 19, 2026:(Now May 19, 2026) Manufacturers, importers, and distributors must comply with the updated HCS for evaluating substances (originally Jan 19, 2026).



July 20, 2026 (Now Nov 20, 2026): Employers (workplace labeling, training) for substances.



July 19, 2027 (Now Nov 19, 2027): Manufacturers, importers, distributors for mixtures.



January 19, 2028 (Now May 19, 2028): Employers (workplace labeling, training) for mixtures SDS sheets with mixtures:Current Deadline: No later than July 19, 2027


SDS sheets not compliant by the above dates may face regulatory agency citations, fines, stop sale / shipment or mandated corrective actions.

The US Department Of Transportation (DOT), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the COSTHA Air Carrier Roundtable would like to remind the hazardous materials community that effective October 1, 2009, the new packaging requirements for transporting cylinders containing compressed oxygen and other oxidizing gases and packages of chemical oxygen generators must be placed in rigid outer packagings that meet the specified flame penetration and thermal resistance requirements when transported aboard an aircraft.
